Buddhist psychology offers one of the most precise and practical ways to understand how the mind works.

For thousands of years, practitioners have turned to the Abhidharma teachings to see clearly how experience unfolds—why we react, how habits form, and what supports clarity and well-being.

In this free online talk, Dharma Moon founder and head teacher David Nichtern will introduce the core elements of the Abhidharma teachings: the mental states, patterns, and building blocks of consciousness that shape our moment-to-moment experience.

These teachings are accessible, relevant, and immediately useful for deepening your own practice and, for those who teach, supporting the people you work with.

Together we will discuss:

  • How mental states arise and dissolve
  • What drives emotional reactivity and ingrained habitual patterns
  • The dynamics of attention, perception, and awareness
  • Practical ways to cultivate clarity, responsiveness, and well-being

David will also touch on how these classical teachings intersect with neuroscience, therapy, and emotional literacy, drawing on perspectives from guest teachers featured in his upcoming Buddhist Psychology course in April 2026.

Come meet David, explore these foundational teachings, and bring any questions you’d like to discuss.
