When the Buddha taught about being compassionate and loving towards all living beings, he was clear to point out that we too are one of those beings. Just as much as any other being, we deserve and benefit from love and compassion.

Many of us are conditioned, from family, culture, or circumstance, to treat love as something we must earn. We learn to measure our worth by achievement or approval, and lose touch with the simple truth that we are already worthy of care.

The good news is that these are indeed just habits. And, like all habits, they can be unwound by intentionally applying methods to counter them.

Metta, or loving-kindness meditation, offers a practical path for doing so. Rooted in the Buddhist tradition, it helps us relate to ourselves with warmth instead of judgment, restoring our natural capacity for compassion and connection. As we learn to extend kindness inward, we also expand our ability to meet others with steadiness, empathy, and care, without burnout or exhaustion.

Join meditation teachers Noel Coakley and Rebecca D’Onofrio for a free online evening exploring the power of self-compassion and the path of metta.

They’ll also introduce Dharma Moon’s new Metta Meditation Teacher Training, beginning February 5th, 2026 for those who wish to deepen their personal practice and learn to guide others in these powerful and timeless teachings of the heart.

All are welcome to join us for this free session to explore how self-compassion supports your well-being and how loving-kindness meditation can help you cultivate a lasting foundation of care for yourself and others. We hope to see you there.
