Many people come to meditation to learn how to work skillfully with stress, difficult emotions, and the habitual patterns that shape their lives. But over time, practice can get squeezed by daily life and turn into shorter sits, less care, and a feeling that something essential has been lost.

In this free online session, Buddhist teacher David Nichtern will explore what it means to deepen practice in a way that is both grounded and sustainable. Drawing from classical Buddhist teachings and decades of personal practice and teaching, David will look at how awareness and clarity naturally re-emerge when we create the right conditions for practice to unfold.

Together, we will discuss:

  • What actually deepens meditation practice beyond technique?
  • How do awareness and clarity become obscured by habit and reactivity?
  • Why longer periods of uninterrupted practice have always been central to the Buddhist path
  • What becomes possible when we give practice the time and space it needs

David will also speak about Time to Meditate, Dharma Moon’s five-day in-person retreat at the Menla Institute in the Catskill Mountains, taking place April 29th to May 3rd, 2026. The retreat will focus on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness as taught in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta, offering a supportive container for sustained practice, silence, and study in community.

We hope you will join us for this opportunity to reconnect with practice and to explore what becomes possible when we allow it to deepen.
