CUTTING THROUGH SPIRITUAL MATERIALISM

REGISTER

“THE PROBLEM IS THAT EGO CAN CONVERT ANYTHING TO ITS OWN USE, EVEN SPIRITUALITY.”

~Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

Walking the spiritual path properly is a very subtle process; it is not something to jump into naively. There are numerous sidetracks which lead to a distorted, ego-centered version of reality; we can deceive ourselves into thinking we are developing spiritually when instead we are strengthening our egocentricity through spiritual techniques. This fundamental distortion may be referred to as spiritual materialism.

Join senior Buddhist teachers, David Nichtern & Larry Mermelstein, close students of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, for an exploration of CTR’s classic text, 'Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism’.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • Discuss the authentic qualities of the spiritual path
  • Identify common misconceptions, obstacles and pitfalls of the journey
  • Look beyond a limited self-improvement approach to spirituality
  • Engage in guided meditation practices led by the instructors
  • Engage in interactive group discussion periods with fellow participants
*recordings will be made available each week
